Atrévete a Soñar: ¡Edúcate! -- April 4, 2009 Conference
(Translation: Dare to Dream:  Get Educated!)

Wheaton-Glen Ellyn is one of four AAUW branches co-sponsoring a one-day conference on the Elmhurst College campus for Latina middle school girls and their mothers.  The focus of the conference will be the personal, professional and financial value of education in general and higher education in particular.

By bringing Latina middle school students and their mothers onto college campuses, Atrévete a Soñar ¡Edúcate! (Dare to Dream: Get Educated!) seeks to empower these young women to create an educational vision for their futures and then to start them on their way to making that vision a reality.

During the conference, attendees and their mothers will be introduced to DuPage County mentoring programs and provided with enrollment assistance.  Atrévete a Soñar: ¡Edúcate! will work with the DuPage Regional Education department as well as local school boards, middle and high school principals, teachers, counselors and social workers to ensure assistance and tracking through the year.
